When you choose Walton Orthodontics for your treatment (we hope you do!), here's how we'll get started:
1. Getting to know you. At your first visit, the treatment coordinator gathers medical and dental histories, plus general information. Dr. Walton will then perform an evaluation to identify problems and discuss potential treatment options. This important 30-minute visit will give us insight into your orthodontic needs. There is no charge for this initial exam.
During the initial examination for each patient, we will address the following questions that cover the basics of orthodontic treatment. We encourage you to ask questions as well.
Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
Is treatment needed now, or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption, or other factors have occurred?
What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
How long will treatment take?
How much will it cost?
What are my payment options?
We feel it is important to analyze each patient's specific needs, because in-depth planning leads to superior results and higher patient satisfaction.
We insist that our patients leave the office with a clear understanding of their specific needs, what the treatment will consist of, and how long it will take.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:
Any panoramic X-ray taken within the past six months.
If you have orthodontic insurance, bring your insurance card. By providing this information at the first visit, we will be able to give you an estimate of your costs.
2. Diagnostic Records and Treatment Plan. If the initial examination indicates the need for treatment, a more detailed diagnostic evaluation will be required. This evaluation is called diagnostic records and it includes X-rays, photos, and impressions for study models, which will be used to develop the appropriate treatment plan. To expedite treatment, because we know your time is valuable, the diagnostic records can be taken at your first visit appointment (at your request) . This additional appointment will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes and incurs a fee.
3. Placing Appliances
Your next couple of appointments will be dedicated to placing the appliances. Also expect individual instruction in hygiene, diet and appliance care from our hygiene specialists.
4. Regular Check-Ups
Once appliances are placed, subsequent adjustment visits are scheduled every 8-12 weeks. These visits with an orthodontist normally take just 15 to 45 minutes.
