Damon® System Braces
Damon® braces were invented by Dr. Dwight Damon. The Damon® bracket utilizes (sliding-door) technology known as "self-ligation" that allows the wire to slide back and forth within the bracket.
No elastic or steel ties are used with Damon® brackets. This technology creates less friction and results in greater comfort for the patient. In addition, Damon® braces often reduce both treatment time and the number of adjustments that are usually performed.

Damon™ braces allow freedom of movement, resulting in faster results with gentler forces and greater comfort.
Traditional Braces With Ligatures:
Elastic or steel ligature ties like those shown create friction and require more force and more frequent adjustments. Increased force causes more discomfort for the patient.
The traditional way of tying a wire to a bracket creates tremendous friction between the brackets and wires. Dr. Dwight Damon created a new way to attach wires to brackets that allows the wire to slide freely, eliminating the friction.
With the Damon Comfort System, the traditional steel and rubber band ties have been eliminated, and a sliding mechanism 'garage door' assembly replaces the traditional handle on the front of the bracket. Wires can be secured to the bracket without the need for ties and their added friction and forces. These improvements make the Damon System brackets friction-free. The advantages of a friction-free system are:

The Damon System uses a self-ligation technique using lighter wires and lower friction brackets to move teeth, while resulting in faster treatment times due to its slide mechanism, strong, mechanical base bonding and solid walls structured to control tooth movement with speed and efficiency.
